The Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship is an opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting young children during their most vital developmental years. This program is tailored to equip you with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to foster children’s learning, development, and well-being in a nurturing environment.

As an apprentice, you will collaborate with experienced early years professionals in settings like nurseries, preschools, and childcare facilities. You will play a crucial role in helping children feel secure, valued, and inspired through engaging, play-based learning experiences.

What You'll Learn

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will acquire essential knowledge, skills, and behaviors required to work effectively in early years settings, including:

  • Supporting children’s learning and development through play-based activities
  • Promoting children's health, safety, and emotional well-being
  • Observing, assessing, and recording children's progress
  • Assisting with personal care routines and daily activities
  • Communicating effectively with children, parents, and colleagues
  • Understanding safeguarding responsibilities and the duty of care
  • Working collaboratively as part of an early years team

You will also complete:

  • The Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths (if needed)
  • A professional portfolio showcasing your skills and development

Progression Opportunities

After completing the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship, you can progress to:

  • Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship
  • Positions such as Early Years Assistant or Nursery Practitioner

With further experience and training, you can move into senior practitioner or leadership roles within early years settings.

Funding and Support

Levy-Paying Employers: Your employer can utilise their Apprenticeship Levy to fully fund your training. 

Non-Levy Employers: The government covers 95% of training costs, requiring only a 5% employer contribution. Full funding is available for learners aged 16–21. Our Business Development Team is here to assist you with funding, eligibility, and enrollment.

Duration & Delivery
  • Typical Duration: 12–15 months Delivery Model: A flexible, blended learning approach that includes:

    - Face-to-face learning sessions and workplace observations

    - Interactive online learning activities

    - Regular one-on-one support from your dedicated tutor

    This structure ensures you gain valuable hands-on experience while balancing your role in an early years setting.
Assessment
  • Throughout the program, you will create a portfolio that highlights your practical skills and professional growth. At the conclusion of your apprenticeship, you will complete an End Point Assessment (EPA), which includes:

    - A professional discussion

    - A knowledge test

    - A workplace observation to demonstrate your practice

    You will receive guidance and support throughout to help you feel confident and well-prepared.
